Wooden Circle of Hares
Chunky wooden plaque hand carved in Bali Indonesia. This large plaque features a variety of Celtic themes including a spiral of hares dancing under various moon phases, along with a Celtic knot border embellished with oak leaves and acorns.
The three hares motif is believed to have originated in China around the 6th or 7th centuries. The design is thought to have then spread along the Silk Road, eventually making it all the way to Europe. Several examples of the hares appear in churches around England with a particular emphasis on areas associated with tin mining.
